Are you starting a mobile oil change business? If so, you should concentrate on the fleet business, at least 50% of your business volume should be in the fleet business sector. It is wise to stay with commercial customers. It is much more efficient to do a line of vehicles, which are all the same, lined up in a row than to go from car to car in parking lots where every car is different with different filters, volumes of oil and idiosyncrasies.
What is the fastest way to change oil while vehicles are in a row? Should you use a vacuum system to extract the oil thru the dip stick tube or do it the old fashion way by draining it from the pan? This is something you must also consider.
Personally, I like the vacu-extraction systems, for the reason mentioned above, although it is very fast and easy to start 5 to 10 vehicles in a row. Turn them off, drain the oil out of the pan, drop the oil filter, replace plug, filter, fill. It goes really fast and efficiency and time are paramount to profits. Depending on numbers of vehicles, number on the crew, this is the main thing to consider.
What about getting a price savings on the oil? Buying bulk oil from a jobber or distributor is preferable, of course, all this is based on volume, but they have so many great resources you will be happy working with them - lots of advantages. The oil companies have great networks of “get it done with no excuses” types. You will enjoy working with them. If you would like more information on the Mobile Oil Change Sector, then be sure to read all my articles or go online and search “mobile oil change”. Sincerely, Lance.
