The large diesel generator industry is filled with a variety of manufacturers. Some such as John Deere and Caterpillar are familiar from their stamp on power equipment and related markets; others are less well-known. The following is a non all-inclusive guide to the biggest names in the industry.
John Deere. Generators with John Deere engines have a reputation for being clean, quick starting, and fuel efficient. The company's legacy of reliable products is extended to the diesel generator market.
Mitsubishi generators boast one of the lowest noise levels in the industry and are engineered to run continuously at optimum performance. They are also fuel efficient and backed by a two-year warranty.
Kubota, one of the top engine manufacturers in the world, also offers gensets powered by its own engines. Gensets are known for one-side maintenance and reliability.
Ottomotores. Manufactures gensets in the range of 15 to 2000 KW for standby, prime, and continuous power. Utilizes diesel engines from Cummins, Mitsubishi, and Perkins.
Perkins. Generators with Perkins engines are well-known in the 4 to 2000 KW range; more than 1,000 equipment manufacturers use Perkins diesel engines, and Perkins engines are used in industries ranging from agriculture to marine.
Kohler generators range from 8.5 to 2800 KW and are available in gas and LP configurations, in addition to diesel. EPA compliant and configurable to any system need.
Powerlink manufactures gensets rated from 6 to 1,760 KW powered by diesel engines from Cummins, Volvo, Perkins, ISUZU, and Kubota.
SDMO generators from the industry's third-biggest player in the genset market range from less than 1 KW to 2640 KW. Annually, the company's output is in excess of 100,000 gensets.
Caterpillar. According to the company, Caterpillar is the world's largest manufacturer of high-speed diesel gensets and engines and offers the largest range of specifications. Ratings from 12 to 17,460 KW are available.
Yanmar. Manufacturer of diesel engines since 1933, Yanmar's products power diesel generators that have low vibration and are reliable and quiet running.
Volvo diesel engines have high load capability and a reputation for fast cold-start performance, making them ideal for use in diesel gensets.
Cummins generators for standby and emergency power start and assume load in less than 10 seconds and provide reliable performance for a number of applications.
Broadcrown. A leading manufacturer of gensets offering a variety of standard and bespoke power solutions for emergency power, standby power, base load power, and more. All aspects of design, manufacture, installation, maintenance, etc. are handled in-house.
Lister Petter. Building on its 140-year history of innovation, manufactures diesel and gas engines, in addition to gensets rated up to more than 200 KW.
