“Many insurance companies may not understand the specific requirements of park home insurance.”
Park homes vary greatly in size and form: some resemble bungalows, others traditional caravans. Sites also vary from small parks, with just a few mobile homes, to larger parks with shopping and even leisure facilities. Many of these are affiliated to the British Holiday and Home Parks Association and the National Park Homes Council.
Park homes and the law
Residential Parks allow tenants to live in them all year round, with their park home serving as their sole or primary residence. Tenants would normally be issued with a Mobile Homes Act Agreement, and park home owners will be protected by a legal act as a resident of the park.
Leisure Parks are for leisure purposes only. They may not be used as a primary residence; park home owners must have a secondary place of residence. Those who make use of leisure parks aren't issued with a Mobile Homes Act Agreement, and are not protected by the Act.
Park homes and insurance
Whether a park home is used as a permanent residence or as holiday accommodation, it needs insurance.
Park home insurance is similar to homeowner's insurance, with a few basic differences. Regular home insurance generally covers homes that are built with integrated foundations or basements. It is not easy to get insurance for park home models, because they are generally not built on permanent foundations.
However, at Towergate, we offer a park home insurance policy that offers the same levels of cover that a regular home insurance policy would. Our policies also include extras such as cover in the case of the separation of the home from the foundation, or if it comes apart at the seams.
These differences make specialist insurance for your park home vital. Many insurance companies may not understand the specific requirements of park home insurance, so consulting a specialist home insurance company is advisable.
Towergate has a long and proud history of protecting park home owners with our specialist park home insurance. Our residential park home insurance offers protection for motor homes and contents, with generous insurance cover for alternative accommodation if you have to move out of your park home following a claim. When you buy a policy from Towergate you are also entitled to automatic membership of the Park Home Owners' Club. Contact us for more information or a free quote today.
