Home Cleaning Tips and Hints

July 17th, 2010 · No Comments

Most of us have a busy working schedule, yet this should not be an excuse for letting the house get really dirty and messy. For one there are professional home cleaners to hire. Yet if you do not wish to spend some cash, you can clean the house by yourself by first setting a convenient schedule and knowing a few helpful hints to help you accomplish the task with less trouble.

Cleaning the house, especially one with moderate space and size, is not likely to take a whole day to finish. If you do not want different home cleaning tasks to overlap with one another, you need to schedule them properly according to what you can only afford to do on a specific time or day. Matter of fact, most household chores can be done in just a matter of 10 minutes. Also if you can manage, try to multitask. Suppose you are washing the laundry, while waiting for the washer to stop, you can sweep the floor or wipe the furniture.

Do not immediately use the glass cleaner on your glass mirrors and windows. Instead you need to first wash the surface with warm water and dish soap using a squeegee or rag. Afterwards you can apply the glass cleaner to help prevent shield the glass surface from dirt. The layer of the applied glass cleaner will also make the collected dirt easier to remove the next time you clean the mirror or window. A cheaper alternative to glass cleaner is a mixture of water and vinegar.

In cleaning the furniture, first wipe the surface with wet rag cloth or wash with water and soap. Afterwards use furniture polish not just to provide shine and luster to the furniture surface but most importantly, the polish will help prevent the dust particles to stick to the furniture and make for easier cleaning. An organic substitute for store-bought furniture polish is a combination of half cup vinegar, 2 teaspoons of olive oil and few drops of lavender oil. Depending on what scents you want, the lavender may be replaced with other essential oils.

The floor is dirt-prone as it's often stepped on with slippers and shoes that may carry more dirt. The most effective way to clean the floor is by using a vacuum especially if there are pets inside the house which constantly shed hair. Yet vacuuming may take long to get out from its storage plus the cord you need to pull out. If you do not wish to use the vacuum you can use a dust mop or non electric carpet sweeper that needs only to be pushed on a carpeted floor.

Sweeping the floor is a must for non carpeted floors even with polished concrete floorings. Choose soft broom with fine bristle for use inside the house to effectively pick fine particles of dirt. If there are sticky and stubborn grime on the floor, you can use rag mops to remove it. If children are most of the time spending time on the floor, then it must be sanitized as well.
